The Antique Mother of Pearl Chinese Gaming Counters and Armorials were made between 1725 and 1840 in Canton, China for Western Royalty and Nobility. Shapes of round, square, oblong, and fish denoted the value. After the 1840s the Chinese began making Silk Winders when card games changed and counters were no longer being ordered. (today we call them thread bobbins).
